Alliant Insurance Services, the nation’s largest specialty insurance brokerage firm, has announced that veteran broker Bill Nellen has joined the company as Executive Vice President to direct its national environmental practice. He will be based in Alliant’s office in Alpharetta, GA.

Nellen comes to Alliant after eight years as a broker with an international insurance brokerage firm where he most recently was a senior vice president and environmental practice leader for the Midwest U.S.

Farmers Moves Simi Valley Employees to Woodland Hills

Los Angeles Farmers Insurance, which has called Southern California home since its founding in 1928, has announced it will move employees from its Simi Valley office to a more modern facility in nearby Woodland Hills in California’s San Fernando Valley.

The company announced that it will move approximately 1,200 people, or 20 percent of its Greater Los Angeles workforce, from building space it leases at 3041 Cochran Street in Simi Valley to another leased facility at 6303 Owensmouth in Woodland Hills.

California Bureau May Ask for 30 Percent Workers’ Comp Increase

California’s Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau is considering requesting a 30 percent increase in pure premium rates for 2011 policies.

The news that California’s Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau (WCIRB) might ask for the increase came out of a meeting of the bureau’s actuarial committee. That committee makes a recommendation to the WCIRB’s governing committee, and then the governing committee makes the request to the states Department of Insurance.
